With Kickboard's Early Warning Indicator System, K-12 Educators Can Keep Students On Track For Promotion And Graduation Kickboard | 8.11.2014

NEW ORLEANS — Aug. 11, 2014 — Students of all ages who struggle in school send out warning signals to let educators know they may be veering off the path to graduation. Yet, juggling disparate systems and disjointed data, educators haven’t had an easy way to track and act upon these signals without an enormous amount of time and effort. With the Kickboard instructional management solution’s new Early Warning Indicator System (EWIS), educators can now easily see how many, and which, students are off track for end-of-year promotion or future academic success, so they can intervene early.

The EWIS is the newest enhancement to Kickboard, a central hub of classroom data where teachers can collect, analyze and share academic and behavioral information. Using the EWIS, schools can set up early warning indicators that act as “triggers” to instantly alert educators to potential problems in general education, Response to Intervention (RTI) and special education programs. Each automated, actionable trigger — from academic mastery in core subjects to course failures to absences — is based on industry research of indicators that predict a child’s likelihood to drop out of school. To provide maximum flexibility, the threshold for each trigger can be configured to the school’s needs. Further, all data entered into Kickboard is updated in real-time and immediately accessible, thus allowing teachers to directly act upon the data.

The EWIS can automatically alert educators or parents to warning signs in several pre-established scenarios, with adjustable thresholds for each, so they can take action as soon as an issue arises. For example, if a student is absent more than eight days and is failing two courses, the EWIS will add the student to the Phone Call Home consequence roster. Or, if a student is absent 0 days at the end of the marking period, it will add the student to the Perfect Attendance consequence roster.

“Whenever a student strays from the path to academic success, teachers and school leaders wonder what they could have done differently to keep the student engaged and on track,” said Kickboard CEO Jennifer Medbery. “With the EWIS, educators will now be able to catch the warning signs early, so they can intervene while there’s still plenty of time to make a difference. What makes Kickboard different from other systems is that it allows educators to view academic and behavioral data together in one system, so they can gain a 360-degree view of student performance for more informed decision making each and every day.”
